Great local wines from Var
The Domaine de Triennes is the brainchild of two men, acclaimed by the entire wine industry: Jacques Seysses, founder of the Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, owner of the Domaine de Villaine and former associate director of the world famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Both of them were also joined by a third one, Michel Macaux. Together, they created Triennes in 1989, in the commune of Nans-les-Pins (French Provence region).
The name of the estate comes from the Latin word "Triennia", used to describe the Roman bacchanalias. Huge festivals in honor of the god of wine Bacchus, that took place every three years in the city of Thebes. The Domaine des Triennes produces local Var wines that are 100% organic (Ecocert certified), in red, white and rosé versions. The 46 hectares of vineyard, planted in a very dry limestone and clay soil, is a collection of Chardonnay, Viognier, Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Syrah grape varieties.
