Fully organic Provence wine
This Provence wine estate was founded in Nice, in 1941. The same year the Bellet micro-appellation (an appellation that's not very well-known in France) was created. The Clos Saint-Vincent had been dormant since the 1950's but it was bought by the Sicardi and Sergi families in 1993. The 6 hectares vineyard – at the time – was and still is located at the top of steep hills, not far from the Château de Crémat; another wine estate from the region. At the helm of this young family business, there are two men: Joseph "Gio" Sergi and his son Julien.
Gio was a former restaurant owner, who didn't know much about winegrowing but had a dream: to bring the old estate back to life. It wasn't an easy thing to do, especially since the vineyard was located so high up. First, he bought many additional grapevines, to end up with a 10 hectares of surface in total. As he wanted to produce extremely qualitative fruits, he chose to adopt biodynamic principles to a T in 2007.
Gio Sergi loves Burgundy wines and their lengthy barrel vinification methods. He set out to turn the Bellet appellation into a big name, just like the Burgundy appellations. The same goes for the local grape varieties he works with, such as the Rolle, Brachet, Folle Noire… In spite of low yields (something like 30,000 bottles per year only), the wines produced by the Clos Saint-Vincent are simply exceptional. They're complex but precise, dynamic but balanced; not too fresh, not too fruity, and just tense enough.
