Rebellious American Rye Whisky
Founded by American entrepreneur Raj Bhakta, WhistlePig is a young rye whiskey brand with a distillery located in Shoreham, Vermont. The brand's name is a nod to the yellow-bellied marmot found in North America, a rodent often nicknamed the "whistle pig". Initially established as a non-distiller producer (thus only selling its whisky to bottlers and blenders), WhistlePig later purchased land to build its own distillery, in 2010. Led by master distiller Dave Pickerell, the company released its first cuvée, the 10-year Small Batch Rye, in 2015.
Now nestled on a 500-acre farm, WhistlePig's distillery stands as a testament to its commitment to quality and tradition. The property, a former dairy farm, is now home to extensive rye grain fields, maple trees for syrup production, various crops, and a range of livestock including pigs, sheep, goats, horses, and bees. At the heart of WhistlePig's operations are lead distiller Emily Harrison and chief blender Meghan Ireland, both pioneers in an industry traditionally dominated by men. Free from generations of family tradition, WhistlePig likes to dream big and embrace risk.
Indeed, WhistlePig aims to be the premier independent craft whiskey brand, constantly pushing the envelope to create the boldest and best ultra-premium rye whiskeys on the market. The spirits company, driven by this dedication to excellence, has expanded its reach with tasting rooms in Quechee, Vermont, and the WhistlePig Pavilion at Stowe Mountain Resort. With plans for further development, including a restaurant, WhistlePig continues to be a beacon of innovation and tradition in the world of rye whiskey.
