Prestige Scottish Whisky
When brothers Hugh and John Stevenson landed on the Hebrides islands in 1793, they found nothing but a natural harbor and windswept land. Here they opened the Oban Brewing Company. They began distilling whiskey the following year. The business remained in the Stevenson family for three generations, until local merchant Peter Cumpstie purchased it in 1830. In 1880 the railway made its debut in Oban, ushering in a new era of communication and transportation. The growth of the distillery led to the creation of the village of Oban, around the whisky distillery.
The distillery has changed hands over the years and has witnessed a bustling town grow around it. But the fierce commitment to excellence and tradition has never wavered. In 1989 "Oban 14 Years" was named one of six Classic Malts representing the Western Highlands region. Although renowned and prosperous, the distillery never expanded. To date it has only 2 stills, and remains the smallest spirits distillery in Scotland, reserving all of its production for single malt whiskies.
