Great Vosne-Romanée wine estate

The Cathiard family settled in Vosne-Romanée in the 1920's. Alfred Cathiard came from the Savoie region to be hired here as a simple workman for the Domaine Lamarche and the world-famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Later, he bought a few parcels of vineyard on the Côte de Nuits terroir, in Burgundy (among which were the Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos-de-Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant) and began to sell his grapes to the many wine trading houses present in the region.

In 1940, his son André came to help his dad at the estate. In 1969, he became the brand new owner and revolutionized the family habits as he chose to not sell his grape harvest to local merchants anymore but to bottle his own wine. He also bought a premier cru parcel in 1972, which ended up becoming the shining star of the Domaine Cathiard: Les Malconsorts (not too far from La Tâche).

In 1985, his young son Sylvain entered the picture. When his father André retired in 1995, Sylvain Cathiard was now put in charge of a wine estate bearing his name. He still cultivates the 5,5 hectares vineyard with his son Sébastien, who has worked with him since the 2000's. The father and son motto is to let the terroirs fully express themselves. Thanks to the work of these two men, the resulting cuvées are precise, pure and full of energy. They're also becoming increasingly difficult to find on the market.
