Brunello di Montalcino Cerbaiona 1997 - Diego Molinari
Italy, Brunello di Montalcino, vintage 1997, Diego Molinari
The Cerbaiona Manor, nestled in the municipality of Montalcino, in Tuscany, was built in the 17th century. At the time, people already said that "Il vino più buono viene da la Cerbaiona" (the best wine comes from Cerbaiona). Diego Molinari indeed knew what he was doing when he bought the vineyard in 1977 and began production four years later. The limestone soil of this little patch of Tuscany is unique and can help you make the best wine there is, with no particular effort.
In 2015, Mr. Molinari sold the manor and its vineyard to a group of three investors (Gary Rieschel, Matthew Fioretti et Maurizio Bovini), who then decided to use more organic methods. Thanks to the transaction, Cerbaiona now has an output of 10,000 to 15,000 bottles per year. The new owners also work tirelessly towards replanting many grapevines who got lost since the 1600's.
