Tasting notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" 2014 - Domaine Joseph Drouhin

  • EYE: This Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" 2014 from Domaine Joseph Drouhin presents a robe of intense and bright ruby, a sign of the youthfulness of the vintage. The wine's clarity is emphasized by captivating purple reflections in the glass.
  • NOSE: The aromatic bouquet offers a complex and captivating sensory experience. Aromas of black cherry and raspberry subtly intertwine with delicate floral notes. More forest-like accents, tinged with vanilla and sweet spices, complement this first nose of great finesse.
  • MOUTH: This cru distinguishes itself with its balanced structure. The well-integrated tannins provide a velvety texture that gently envelops the palate with smoothness and elegance. The fruity flavors persist, evoking red and black berries, while slightly spicy and mineral nuances add extra depth. The freshness in the finish pleasantly prolongs this tasting experience.

In short: The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" 2014 from Drouhin impresses us with its aromatic complexity and carefully balanced structure. A wine that combines elegance and character, reaching its peak in 7 to 12 years. Pair this wine with roasted duck breast with cherries, a selection of aged cheeses including delicious Époisses, beef stew with sweet spices, subtly sweetened red fruit tart, or grilled lamb chops.

Famous Beaune wine estate

The Drouhin family has been working in the vineyard for more than 130 years. In 1880, Joseph Drouhin founded his very first wine trading house in Beaune. A few years later, his son Maurice turned this little business into a bonafide wine estate, with the addition of a vineyard next to the main building. Then, in 1957, Joseph’s grandson Robert bought many more grapevines as well as a fully equipped oenological laboratory. Managed by Laurence Jobard, the first woman oenologist in Burgundy, this lab allowed them to experiment a lot (turning the estate into one of the first to adopt reasoned viticulture, for example).

Thanks to his research, Robert laid the first brick of what would ultimately become the philosophy of the Domaine Drouhin. Since 1990, the estate has gone full biodynamics and the motto now is to solve natural problems using natural solutions. Plowing is done using a horse, fertilizers are completely natural, yields are voluntarily low, grapevines are respected, harvesting is done by hand… Everything here revolves around the well-being of the vineyard, which of course shows in the final products.

The Drouhin style gives birth to wines that are a balanced combination of harmony, smoothness and strength. The estate’s pursuit of excellence leaves nobody indifferent. Today, the Domaine Joseph Drouhin owns 73 hectares of vineyard, located in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de BeauneCôte Chalonnaise and Chablisien. It is one of the biggest estates in Burgundy, producing more than 90 different appellations (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), with many of them being premiers crus or even grands crus.
