Family wine estate of Vosne-Romanée
The Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg was created in 1933 by a young couple. André Mugneret and Jeanne Gibourg founded this modest Vosne-Romanée estate and its 3 hectares of grapevines, not really because they wanted to open a business and make money (selling wine was actually quite complicated between the two world wars) but because they shared a common love for nature and the vineyard.
Their son Georges, born in 1929, lent his parents a hand in their Côte de Nuits estate but also made a career as an ophthalmologist. After graduating, he opened an office in Dijon... while taking care of the vineyard at the same time! Georges Mugneret, the winemaker slash eye doctor, slowly expanded the little family estate, buying many parcels of renowned Burgundies between 1953 and 1985, such as the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Feusselottes" and Clos Vougeot Grand Cru. Thus the Domaine Georges Mugneret was officially born.
Georges passed in 1988, leaving his widow Jacqueline Mugneret (a former school teacher) at the helm of the wine business. Her two daughters, Marie-Christine Teillaud-Mugneret and Marie-Andrée Nauleau-Mugneret, quickly joined their mom and left their former jobs to become full-time winemakers. In 2009, the old Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg and the new Domaine Georges Mugneret merged to create the Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. That same year, Jacqueline retired, letting her daughters take care of the estate, along with her four granddaughters.
