Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 1999 - Domaine Leflaive
Bourgogne, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, vintage 1999, Domaine Leflaive
The Domaine Leflaive was founded during the 1920's by Joseph Leflaive, a professional engineer of the French "Genie Maritime". In 1973, his four children (Anne, Jo, Vincent and Jeanne) take the reins and form the "Societe Civile d'Exploitation" to administrate the domain. Their goal: to turn the Chardonnay from the Cote de Beaune into a wine of excellence.
Results come quickly and the Domaine Leflaive soon acquires an international reputation. This was also made possible thanks to Anne-Claude, Vincent Leflaive's daughter, who became the manager of the domain in 1994. She was a precursor in the field of biodynamic agriculture, as well as the founder of the "Ecole du Vin et des Terroirs" in 2008.
Today, the great grandson of the original founder, Brice de la Morandiere, administrates the family domain. He is worthy of the Leflaive tradition, as he is extremely respectful of nature and seeks excellence above all else. The domain recently grew larger, but always in keeping with the original technology, and acquired a dozen of additional hectares.
