Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2017 - Domaine Arlaud
AOC, Grand Cru, Appellation Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Arlaud, vintage 2017
The Domaine Arlaud is managed by Cyprien Arlaud, the grandson of Joseph Arlaud, founder of the domain in 1942. With its 54 hectares of grapes, cultivated organically, the Arlaud family produces 19 appellations (among which 4 great growths: Charmes Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis)
In 2014, the Domaine received the Biodyvin certification for its complete refusal of pesticides. The Arlaud family goes even one step further, since the entire plowing process is done by horse, as to preserve the integrity of the soils. Such a devotion to authenticity truly deserves respect.

Morey Saint-Denis organic winemaker
The Arlaud vineyard is located in Burgundy, in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis. The Arlaud family has been present in the region for several centuries, but it was in 1942 that their winemaking adventure began, with the union of Joseph Arlaud and Renée Amiot. The couple founded their small estate and started producing wine as early as 1949. They also invested in their now iconic cellar (which can be found on the labels of the estate's wines) in 1966. In 1983, Hervé Arlaud and his wife Brigitte took over the family estate.
Hervé focused on producing high-quality wines. To do so, he banned the use of pesticides as early as 1999, then converted the estate to organic farming in 2004 and began working more naturally in the cellar as well, limiting his interventions during the vinification process. In 2009, the estate made the big transition to biodynamics (without any official certification). Gradually, Hervé was joined by his two sons, Cyprien and Romain, who in turn contributed to the modernization and expansion of the estate.
In 2013, Cyprien Arlaud inherited the family estate, which had been expanded with the acquisition of new parcels in the Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations. He now works closely with his brother Romain Arlaud. Today, the Arlaud estate owns a little bit over 15 hectares of vineyards, spread across 19 appellations of the Côte de Nuits, including four grand crus: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint Denis, Charmes Chambertin, and Bonnes Mares. The Arlaud estate is considered one of the best wine producers in the region.
