Magnificent estate of Gevrey-Chambertin
The Domaine Sylvie Esmonin (about 8 hectares of vineyard in total), is brilliantly managed by its eponymous owner. Former agricultural engineer, Sylvie Esmonin was also a wine consultant in multiple Côte de Nuits estates, before she decided to work alongside her father Michel Esmonin, and took over the Gevrey-Chambertin family estate in 1998, giving it her name.
Work and expertise in the vineyard, winemaking using the entire grapes... Sylvie Esmonin strives to create generous wines, full of nobility. She produces several appellations (Bourgogne Blanc, Bourgogne Rouge, Côte de Nuits Village, Gevrey Chambertin, Volnay-Santenots, and the flagship: Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques), some in confidential quantities to the greatest joy of enlightened amateurs.
The Clos Saint-Jacques plot's name comes from the discovery of a statue of Saint-Jacques (patron saint of travelers and pilgrims), and the presence of a chapel solely dedicated to him. The plot represents a bit more than 2 hectares of land and is divided into vertical stripes belonging to five different owners, including the Domaine Sylvie Esmonin.
