Château Angélus

Premier Grand Cru Classé A from Saint-Émilion

The Château Angélus was created by the Boüard de Laforest family, who owned the neighboring Château Mazerat. The name of this Bordeaux castle was chosen because, when they were working in the vineyard, people could hear the ringing of the Angelus (the bells announcing the daily prayers) of three nearby churches: the Mazerat Chapel, the Church of Saint-Martin-de-Mazerat and the Saint-Émilion Chapel.

The winery has grown from the 1920's to the 1970's, it is now nearly one single block of 23,4 hectares. The plots are located on the foothills of the southern coast, the soil of this terroir is mostly a blend of clay and limestone in the upper part, where the Merlot grapes are growing, and a large quantity of sand at the bottom, where other grape varieties like the Cabernet Franc are located.
