Organic Wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges
It all began around the late 1950's when Fernand Lécheneaut established his eponymous vineyard in the villag of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Côte de Nuits. At that time, the estate just had 2.5 hectares of vineyards spread across Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, and Morey-Saint-Denis. In 1986, Fernand's two sons, Philippe and Vincent, who grew up amidst the Burgundy terroir, naturally took over after completing their oenology training at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Their aim was, of course, to prosper and expand the family estate.
The two brothers rolled up their sleeves, and thus began the continuous growth and development of the Domaine Lécheneaut. In 1987, they leased vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. Later on, they acquired new plots, including some Premiers Crus, in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. The prestigious Premier Cru "Les Pruliers" from Nuits-Saint-Georges and the Clos des Ormes in Morey-Saint-Denis also became part of the estate. Today, a total of around twenty prestigious appellations, covering about a dozen hectares, belong to the two brothers. In 2005, alongside these acquisitions, the winemaking facilities and cellars underwent modernization and expansion.
Vincent and Philippe Lécheneaut now strive to meet the demands of an international clientele. They practice organic winemaking and intentionally limit their yields. Their ultimate goal is to enhance the purity of the wines while preserving the family traditions in memory of their father, Fernand. Since 2017, a third generation has been present at the estate, with the arrival of Jules Lécheneaut, Vincent's young son, who will one day take the reins of the Domaine Lécheneaut when the time comes.
