Pouilly-Fuissé 2014 - Jules Desjourneys
Burgundy, Maconnais, Pouilly-Fuisse 2014, Jules Desjourneys
The Domaine J-A Ferret, founded in 1840, is first and foremost the story of two women: Jeanne Ferret and Audrey Braccini. In the 1950's, Jeanne Ferret was the first to embottle her wine herself and sell it directly at the domaine. This was quite the feat at the time. She was the one behind the plot-specific vinification process that still exists nowadays at the winery.
As for Audrey Braccini, she's in charge of the Domaine J-A Ferret since it was bought by Louis Jadot's trading house, in 2008. She's an expert oenologist who seeks purity and intensity at all costs. Lately, she's also proven her attachment to nature, as she decided to convert to biodynamic agriculture. The domain may have a low yield but this only make its wines more exceptional.

The Finest Beaujolais Wines
Jules Desjourneys, or rather his alter-ego Fabien Duperray, is a winemaker from Beaujolais. After attending a sommelier school in the Lyon region, Fabien signed up for an oenology training course in Beaune. At first, he played the role of consultant for his former classmates and new friends from the region, including the Ente brothers (Arnaud and Benoît), Christophe Perrot-Minot, Jean-Yves Bizot... With his help, these winemakers, still beginners at the time, gained an increasingly great reputation in the Burgundy region, and then the world.
In 2006, in his early forties, Fabien Duperray decided to become a winegrower himself. An idea that had been brewing in his mind for many years. He quickly set his sights on a few vineyard plots in the Beaujolais terroirs of Chénas, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent. He founded his own wine estate and one year later, started producing his very first 2007 vintage. His vision for red wine is one of purity and perfect mastery, which is why he categorically refuses to use any kind of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
Later, in 2013, Fabien Duperray partnered with another winemaker (Christophe Thibert) to venture into the white wine territory and work with a new grape variety: Chardonnay. Starting from 2014, the Domaine Jules Desjourneys released its first cuvées of Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Loché, and Pouilly-Vinzelles. As usual, Fabien prioritizes working in the vineyard over intervention in the cellar. He enjoys taking his time and pampering his vineyard. This mindset is also shared by his longtime idol, Jean-François Coche-Dury.
