Tasting notes for the Puligny-Montrachet "Nexe Flore" 2016 - Benoît Ente

  • EYE: This Puligny-Montrachet presents itself in our wine glass with a brilliant golden yellow color, a sign of its maturity. Its clarity and subtle reflections foreshadow a tasting experience as elegant as it is promising.
  • NOSE: A complex Chardonnay bouquet, where delicate floral aromas harmoniously blend with characteristic buttery notes of the grape variety and subtle touches of vanilla. Mineral nuances complete this ensemble, emphasizing the unique expression of the terroir.
  • MOUTH: The Nexe Flore reveals all its finesse and balanced structure. A lively attack unveils citrus flavors, closely followed by the richness of white-fleshed fruits and an elegant minerality. The creamy texture adds a pleasant tactile dimension, and the persistent finish attests to the quality of this specimen.

In short: Benoît Ente's Puligny-Montrachet Nexe Flore 2016 pulls out all the stops, with its golden robe, expressive nose marrying flowers, butter, and minerality, and its balanced palate oscillating between freshness and richness. This blended Chardonnay can be tasted now, but its aging potential extends over a period of 5 to 7 years, so there's no rush. Elevate this cuvée with dishes such as sole meunière, pan-seared scallops, veal blanquette, truffle risotto, or even a lemon meringue tart.

Winemaking family from Puligny-Montrachet

From the famous Ente family, here comes Benoît. He started his career by helping his aunt on her Burgundy vineyard in 1990. Eight years later, he decided to fly solo and sold his very first vintage in 2002. When his aunt retired in 2013, she asked Benoît to take care of the family estate (whose grapevines were planted right after World War II). His brother Arnaud is a true inspiration to Benoît, and he tries to be as great a winemaker as him. He has decided to work on his wines' two main strengths: purity and elegance.

On his 6 hectares of land, mainly located around the village of Puligny-Montrachet (on the Côte de Beaune), Benoit Ente produces 12,000 bottles per year of ChardonnayBourgogne Aligoté and Pinot Noir. He uses no herbicides and no chemical fertilizers, because his relationship with his vineyard is a respectful and lasting one. His wines, which used to be rich and powerful, have progressively become more dynamic. For him, an acidic wine is much more pleasant in the mouth and can last longer in a cellar.
