Iconic Charente cognac
At its core, Deau Cognac is a family story. It all began in 1685, when Louis Deau started working as a winemaker in Charente. This wine and chemistry lover discovered the joys of cognac distillation, a type of wine that started to gain popularity in the region during the 17th century. There were no proper Cognac distilleries back then (not before the 19th century, actually), but a slew of little spirits producers such as Louis. Over the years, thanks to a lot of hard work and talent, the Deau family succeeded in turning its name into a bonafide brand.
In 1962, Roland Bru bought an estate in Sireuil and built the Distillerie des Moisans. There, he cultivated 30 hectares of grapevines producing the "Fin Bois" cru, one of the six 1909 official Cognac crus. The "Fin Bois" represents around 40% of the region's entire vineyard. When Roland died in 1997, he left everything to his daughter Véronique Bru-Legaret. She now manages the business with the help of her son Roland Legaret.
The Legaret family bought the Deau brand in 2004. Today, the Moisans estate owns more than 60 hectares of vineyard, with 50% of "Petite Champagne" cru (the little brother of the superb "Grande Champagne" cru). In total, there are more than 2,000 barrels containing 350 liters of cognac each, that slumber in their cellars. The premium brand Deau Cognac is the apple of the estate's eye, presented by the Legaret family as the perfect alliance of nature and elegance. The distillery also produces the Cognac Roland Bru as well as the Cognac Moisans.
