Presentation of the winery

The origin of this area dates back to the 19th century. In 1971, the Count Joseph Hubert von Neipperg buys the property at the same time as Canon La Gaffelière and Clos de l’Oratoire. The Count is native of the valley of Württemberg, where it already has a few vineyards. In 1985, his son Stephan von Neipperg, which is agronomist, decided to occupy himself areas.
During the revision of the classification of Saint-Emilion in 1996, the Committee requires that wine of Château Mondotte, has its own facilities. Stephan von Neipperg decides to use this winery to create exceptional wines. To mark the difference with the other vintages, the name of the castle changed to "La Mondotte". The family then cooperates with Stéphane Derenoncourt as winemaker. It knows its first success with Château Pavie- Macquin. It was also a great success with Château La Mondotte, after that he will engage his consulting career and be known in the entire world. He is always consultant at Château La Mondotte.
Château La Mondotte is located in the town of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes. The vineyard is 4.5 hectares and the ground is composed of calcareous clay loam with bedrock. The vines are composed of 75 % Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.

Wine

La Mondotte 1996 is a unique, incredibly rich wine. The color of this wine is red purple. On the nose it reveals concentrated, with notes of coffee, licorice, blackberry and cassis. On the palate, this wine is dense, rich, concentrated, with soft tannins.

The origin of this Bordeaux estate dates back to the 19th century. In 1971, the Count Joseph Hubert von Neipperg bought the property at the same time as Canon La Gaffelière and Clos de l'Oratoire. The Count is native of the valley of Württemberg, where he already had a few vineyards. In 1985, his son Stephan von Neipperg, an agronomist, chose to take care of his father's estates.

During the revision of the classification of Saint-Émilion in 1996, the Committee required that the Château Mondotte acquire its own winemaking equipment instead of using the Canon La Gaffelière's facilities. Stephan von Neipperg decided to use the Château to create exceptional wines. To mark the difference with the other vintages, the name of the castle even changed to "La Mondotte".

The family then collaborated with Stéphane Derenoncourt as their official winemaker. He struck gold with Château La Mondotte, so much so that it kickstarted his consulting career and helped him become known in the entire world. He currently still works as a consultant for Château La Mondotte. Located near the town of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes (in the Libournais, next to Château Troplong-Mondot), the vineyard is 4.5 hectares and the ground is composed of limestone, clay and silt, on top of the bedrock. The vines are 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.
