From Étienne de Montille and Rodolphe Péters
The Racines Estate was created by two men famous in the world of wine: Étienne de Montille and Rodolphe Péters. The former is the current manager of the Domaine de Montille, the latter is one of the high popes of Champagne (who also collaborated with Brad Pitt on the Fleur de Miraval cuvée). Both are huge fans of the United States, and especially the Santa Rita Hills (one of the biggest wine regions in California).
There, they worked with Brian Sieve, Étienne's cellar master, and Justin Willet, a winemaker from Santa Barbara. The four of them united their strengths to experiment on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapevines, with the objective to produce a wine that could rival with the best Burgundies available. Thanks to a cooler weather that's perfect for winegrowing, the Racines wines reach a degree of smoothness and precision rarely seen before.
Étienne de Montille and Rodolphe Péters managed to leave behind the rules and limitations that go with Burgundy wines production, in order to let their creativity run wild. The result? High quality organic wines (three cuvées are made by the estate, among which a sparkling wine) that can truly let the Santa Rita Hills terroir shine. The Racines Project, born from the minds of two free-thinking winemakers, is a resounding victory!
