Some of the finest Alsace wines
The Boxler family has been harvesting grapevines in Alsace since 1672, the year Jean Boxler (a former Swiss citizen who settled in the little village of Niedermorschwihr, in the Haut-Rhin department) started selling his production to different wine merchants in the region. It took centuries — until 1946, to be more precise — before this family of winemakers finally decided to make its very own wines, bottled at the estate.
Albert Boxler was the first to do it, as soon as he came back from the war. With the help of his wife Élise, he completely renovated the family property and bought many parcels of vineyard (among which was the lush hill of the Sommerberg, the crown jewel of the Boxler estate). Jean's cousin, an artist painter, even lent a hand to the couple. He was the one who drew the labels you can still see today on the wine bottles.
In 1962, Albert left everything to his son Jean-Marc Boxler. From his dad, Jean-Marc also inherited very high standards when it came to the quality of his products. Through hard work, he managed to turn the estate into a worldwide phenomenon. Then came Albert's grandson, in 1996. When Jean Boxler became the new owner of the family estate, he stayed true to the family's roots: a deep respect for the vineyard and the love of a job well done.
For Jean, making wine is a way to not only express his creativity, but also the occasion to let a terroir really shine. He takes great joy in delivering a truly authentic wine. Since 2003, Jean switched to organic winemaking, although he has no official certification to show. Due to the quality of his cuvées, this Alsacian winemaker is now part of the local elite. On his 19 hectares of vineyard, he produces up to 65,000 bottles per year.
