Tasting notes for the Bas Armagnac 1960 - Maison Ducastaing

  • EYE: The robe of this Bas Armagnac 1960 from the late Maison Ducastaing won us over with its deep mahogany color, evoking the passage of time and the patina of the years. Its brilliance, a testament to a long maturation in cask, heralds a promising tasting experience.
  • NOSE: Enchanting aromas are released, subtly blending notes of dried fig, prunes, and vanilla. Woody accents, accompanied by a touch of tobacco, reveal the richness of barrel influences, providing a complex olfactory experience.
  • MOUTH: The tasting unveils an exceptional gustatory harmony. The sweetness of honey and caramel marries with fruity flavors, such as cooked pears and candied citrus. Spicy nuances of cinnamon and nutmeg add an extra depth to this refined tasting experience.

In short: This Bas Armagnac 1960 from Ducastaing, and part of Mr. Freddy Marzolf's private collection, is an authentic expression of the terroir, carefully aged to achieve exemplary maturity. Its color, complex aromatic bouquet, and balanced flavor palette make it an exceptional liqueur. Pair this Armagnac with desserts featuring caramelized fruits, strong cheeses like Roquefort, roasted cashews, seared foie gras, and fine dark chocolates. These varied culinary pairings will enhance the subtle nuances of this exceptional Armagnac, creating a memorable tasting experience.

Fine French armagnac

The "Compagnie d'Armagnac Ducastaing Saint Vivant" was founded in a village called Condom, in the Gers region of France. Its date of creation is not known but it is highly probable that the business was already there long before World War II. It was bought by the group La Martiniquaise in 1982; the latter was born in 1934 and used to own the Trois Rivières brand of rums. Now, the Ducastaing brand is one of the many subsidiary companies of the group. Among the brands in La Martiniquaise's catalog, we can find the rums La Negrita and Saint-James, the whiskies Glen Turner and Sam Barton, the tequila Tiscaz, the cognac Courcel… and many, many more big names. La Martiniquaise is currently the second biggest liquors and spirits group in France, right behind the huge Pernod Ricard group.
