Organic Jura wines at their best

André and Mireille Tissot laid the first brick of their estate in 1962, in a little village called Montigny-les-Arsures. The 2 hectares of vineyard, located to the north of Arbois (right in the middle of the Jura region), were given to them by Andrés father, who used them as pastures for his cows. André and Mireille slowly develop their new business and manage to cumulate 16 hectares of land. To stand out from his three winemaking brothers, André chose to add the name of his wife Mireille to the estate’s name. It might seem like a detail, but during the 1960’s it was a bold move.

In 1989, the couple's son Stéphane just finished his winemaking studies in Beaune. This seasoned globetrotter, who spent a lot of time in Australia and North Africa, inherited the Domaine Tissot from his father (although they now both work together). Thanks to his Burgundian training and his perfect analysis of the Jura terroir, he quickly determined how rich the soils were. This led him to adopt a piecemeal approach to winemaking and thus the Curon, Château-Chalon, Bruyères and Mailloche parcels were born.

Stéphane has one single goal: to let the terroir breathe through his wines. This quest for authenticity pushes him to take a closer look at organic methods. After arguing with André for years, the son managed to impose his philosophy. In 1999, the entire estate (50 hectares in total) switched to organic winemaking. Five years later, biodynamics became the new norm, with an official Demeter certification. The Tissot family has done everything possible to ensure that their vineyard only produces the purest wine there is.
