Tasting notes for the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 - Paul Pernot

  • EYE: The wine displays a brilliant and intense golden color in the glass. Its robe is radiant, reflecting the ripeness of the grapes during harvest.
  • NOSE: Rich and complex aromas unfold. One can perceive notes of exotic fruits such as pineapple and mango, accompanied by a subtle touch of candied lemon. Harmoniously mingling, aromas of white peach and ripe pear bring a fruity and aromatic dimension to this wine.
  • MOUTH: The Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 offers a velvety texture and remarkable fullness. The fruity flavors fully develop with beautiful intensity. Exotic fruits blend with citrus and white-fleshed fruits, creating a balance between freshness and richness. Nuances of vanilla and honey can also be distinguished, providing a pleasant touch of sweetness. The finale of this Grand Cru is long and persistent, leaving a delicate imprint of tropical fruits and a slight mineral note. The tannins are perfectly integrated, giving an elegant structure to the entire wine.

In short: This Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 by Paul Pernot is a wine of great elegance, offering a rich and complex aromatic palette and a velvety texture on the palate. It is an ideal choice for Burgundy white wine enthusiasts seeking an exceptional gustatory experience. It pairs perfectly with noble dishes such as crustaceans, grilled langoustines, lobsters, or fine fish in sauce. Its richness and complexity also make it an interesting choice to accompany soft cheeses and truffle-based dishes.

Family wine estate in Puligny-Montrachet

The Domaine Paul Pernot was founded in 1959, on the famous commune of Puligny-Montrachet, in Burgundy. Although, the vineyard itself is much older than that, as it's been in the Pernot family for more than 200 years. After three decades of good and loyal service to his grapevines, Paul Pernot decided to retire and leave the family business in the capable hands of his two sons, Paul (Jr.) and Michel.

Today, the 10 hectares vineyard of the early years has doubled in size to reach a total surface of 23 hectares. Almost 70% of the grapevines are from the Puligny-Montrachet premier cru appellation. The Domaine Paul Pernot is actually one of the biggest producers for the appellation, like the Domaine Leflaive and the Domaine de Montille. Two parcels of grands crus located on the Côte de Beaune (the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet appellations) also belong to the two Pernot brothers.

Michel and Paul are backed up by Paul Sr.'s grand-daughter, Alvina Pernot. She became a winemaker in 2017, with the support of her husband Philippe. Not only does she lend a hand to the family estate but she also produces her very own brand of wine, under her name. Alvina is on a quest to offer a unique and authentique experience to customers, as she fights to preserve each local terroir's specificities.
