Historical estate in Bouzeron
Managed by Aubert de Villaine, the man behind the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and the young Domaine de Triennes, the Domaine de Villaine’s vineyard has existed since the Middle Ages in Burgundy. At the time, the monks of Cluny used to take care of the grapevines. Its current story started in 1971, in the small village of Bouzeron (located somewhere between Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, on the Côte Chalonnaise). Aubert and his wife Pamela bought 25 hectares of vineyard and decided to turn the plot into a successful estate.
In 1986, they switched to organic winemaking, and 11 years later the estate received the “Qualité France” certification. In order to dedicate more of his time to the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Aubert de Villaine left the entire estate in the capable hands of his nephew Pierre de Benoist in 2003. The new owner is walking in the footsteps of his uncle, staying true to biodynamic methods but also acquiring new patches of land to expand the vineyard. The Domaine de Villaine works with Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties, to produce around 70,000 bottles per year. Pierre’s wine is the pure expression of the Bouzeron terroir, with all its different characteristics.
