Lively Kentucky Bourbon

In 1987, Thomas E. Bulleit Jr, a Vietnam War veteran realized his life's dream by founding the Bulleit Distilling Company in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. His bourbon is made according to a recipe passed down for 5 generations which was originally invented by his ancestor Augustus Bulleit. A Frenchman who decided to leave everything to try his luck in the new world, Augustus Bulleit had several lives before embarking on a career as an innkeeper in the 1830s in Louisville, Kentucky. He puts all his energy into a single idea: to create a bourbon whisky with a unique flavor. After many tries, Augustus finally found a bourbon with exactly the character he was looking for.

Then one day, while transporting his barrels of bourbon from Kentucky to New Orleans, Augustus Bulleit disappeared without a trace. Even today, the mystery remains intact. According to Tom Bulleit, great-great-grandson of original creator Augustus Bulleit and developer of the modern brand, the first batch of Bulleit bourbon was made around 1830. Augustus continued to produce it until his mysterious death in 1860. The current recipe follows Augustus Bulleit's original recipe, which used two-thirds corn and one-third rye.

The result is an atypical bourbon, not very sweet and drier than average. Its high rye content gives it a lively and spicy side that melts into a very characteristic soft and pure finish. The water filtered by the limestone of the Kentucky River is an essential component of this bourbon, while the charred American oak barrels give the spirits a smoky structure.
