Tasting notes for the Mizuiro 2016 - Les Miroirs (Kenjiro Kagami)
- EYE: Very pale golden robe. Its clarity and brilliance evoke delicate maturity, while golden reflections announce a rich experience.
- NOSE: This white wine reveals a complex bouquet where subtle aromas of honey, hazelnut, and white flowers harmoniously mingle. Citrus nuances, white peach, and a slight minerality add an extra dimension to this aromatic composition.
- MOUTH: A silky texture and a balance between fruity richness and lively acidity. Persistent flavors of melon, white-fleshed fruits, honey, and toasted almonds evolve with elegance. The fresh, mineral, and long finish emphasizes the finesse of this Jura white, leaving a memorable impression.
In short: This Mizuiro "Les Saugettes" 2016, produced by Kenjiro Kagami in his Domaine des Miroirs, is an extremely fresh white Jura wine, just dry and acidic enough. Such a bottle would be the perfect companion for any kind of dish with white meat and mushrooms. If you're not ready to open it yet, no worries: the Mizuiro can also benefit from a dozen years of cellaring.

When wine becomes like a mirror
Kenjiro Kagami, a Japanese citizen, was so in love with France that he decided to move here in 2001. Former Hitachi engineer, he was a wine enthusiast through and through. This immediately drove him to take winemaking lessons in Chambolle-Musigny (Burgundy). For two years, he honed his skills and strove to achieve his new dream: to create his very own estate and finally produce a wine that would satisfy him.
In 2010, his friend Jean-François Ganevat convinced him and his wife Mayumi to buy a house in the small village of Grusse, in the Jura region. On nearby limestone slopes, the now professional winemaker built his estate, the Domaine des Miroirs (“Mirror Estate” in English). An aptly-named winery, since “kagami” is the Japanese word for “mirror”. Because for Kenjiro, the work you do in the vineyard is reflected in your wine.
On his 3 hectares of land, Kenjiro Kagami cultivates Chardonnay and Savagnin, mainly. With only a tad of Poulsard and Trousseau here and there. His wines are 100% organic and the cuvées are vinified in old barrels, with no added sulphites, between four to five years. It's all very simple, but it works. The winemaker exports 80% of his production to Japan, which is also why his bottles are so hard to find in France.
