Organic Wine from Savoy
The Domaine des Ardoisières, established in 1997 in Freterive (in Savoie) by Michel Grisard, a prominent figure in Savoyard viticulture, and skillfully managed by Brice Omont, generates genuine enthusiasm in the small world of natural Savoy wines. Starting from scratch, with the sole support of the commune of Cevins and local associations, the two men developed the estate for five years before the first harvest happened. Confronted with the challenges of establishing a vineyard in a region that now has only 3,000 hectares of vineyards compared to the 20,000 it had in the past, the Domaine des Ardoisières persevered and established itself as one of the flagship Savoyard estates recognized worldwide.
With about fifteen hectares of vineyards spread between the Coteaux de Cevins and the Coteaux de Saint Pierre de Soucy, the estate stands out for its commitment to excellence and soil preservation. Cultivated on steep terraces, the plots offer challenging conditions for viticulture. However, this doesn't deter Brice, who practices biodynamic viticulture in his vineyard, excluding chemical products in favor of natural methods. Indigenous grape varieties such as Persan, Mondeuse Blanche, and Altesse undergo meticulous work to express the unique and pure identity of each terroir, confirming the Domaine des Ardoisières' place among the very best.
