Tasting notes for the Saumur-Champigny "Glouglou" 2022 - Domaine des Sables Verts

  • EYE: The "Glouglou" 2022 cuvée adorns itself with a bright ruby red robe, characteristic of wines from the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The clarity of the liquid attests to its youth, and its crystalline appearance suggests precise winemaking. Purple reflections at the periphery of the glass point to a delicate experience.
  • NOSE: This vintage reveals a fresh and fruity bouquet. Aromas of raspberry and cherry dominate, evoking the freshness of just-picked fruit. Delicate floral notes, such as violet, add a light aromatic dimension. The slightly sparkling character of the wine is already noticeable in this olfactory phase, promising a revitalizing mouthfeel.
  • MOUTH: The Saumur-Champigny "Glouglou" 2022 vintage unfolds treasures of lightness and vivacity. Soft tannins give a silky texture to the wine, while the flavors of tangy red fruits explode in the mouth. Lively acidity brings freshness and dynamism, creating an accessible and enjoyable tasting profile, ideal for immediate consumption without the need for aging.

In short: At its current stage, this young Saumur-Champigny "Glouglou" 2022 from the Domaine des Sables Verts is ready to be experienced within the next two to three years to discover its optimal freshness. This wine embodies the modern and approachable style of the region, perfect for an aperitif. Pair this light wine with a warm goat cheese salad, herb-marinated chicken skewers, vegetarian pizza, or black olive tapenade on crostinis.

Loire Valley Wines

In 1985, two brothers, Dominique and Alain Duveau, took control of their family vineyard, called "Les Sables Verts" and located in Varrains in the Loire Valley. Together, they founded the "GAEC Duveau Dominique et Alain" at the time. After more than 30 years of work, the two brothers decided to lease their vines to a young winemaking couple: Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge. They placed complete trust in them, with Alain Duveau providing guidance during the first three years of operation.

It was in 2019 that the new owners invested in winemaking equipment and reopened the doors of the Domaine des Sables Verts. The name originates from the soil in which the vineyard grows, consisting of calcareous sands and greenish tuffeau chalk, rich in glauconite. In the 16 hectares of vineyards, the Saumur-Champigny appellation dominates, produced from Cabernet Franc and Chenin grape varieties.

Here, the harvest is entirely manual, and the winemaking philosophy remains very minimalistic. The resulting wines are both rich and precise, highly sought after internationally, as 40% of the production is destined for export. Caroline and Hervé have already undertaken an HVE (High Environmental Value) conversion for the estate and plan to initiate a complete organic conversion in the years to come.
