Great Sancerre white wines
The name Boulay has always rhymed with wine. This family has been growing grapevines for centuries, as the very first time their last name appeared in local documents goes back to the year 1310. A fact also mentioned by a sign you can find in the estate. The Boulay estate is located in the commune of Chavignol, in the Loire region, where the famous Sancerre appellation is produced. Their 11,5 hectares vineyard is almost entirely dedicated to white wines, with only 2 hectares reserved for red and rosés wines. The family also owns one of the most impressive terroirs in the entire region: the Clos de Beaujeu.
Gérard Boulay has been making his own wine since 1995, following in his ancestors' footsteps. The estate adheres to the principles of organic winemaking, although it doesn’t have any kind of official certification. Here, the soils are tilled with care, the surrounding vegetation is kept alive, pesticides and herbicides are almost entirely banned, yields are deliberately low, grapes are harvested by hand…
Through his hard work and dedication, this soft-spoken winemaker has managed to reach the stars. Since the early 2000's, he's now part of the elite of Sancerre wine, with others like Edmond Vatan and François Cotat. The wines produced by the Domaine Gérard Boulay are often celebrated for their purity, their elegance and the fact that they truly let the Chavignol terroir shine through their bottles.
