  • Presentation of the winery

Ausone is one of the oldest properties in Saint-Emilion. The name of Ausone comes from the name of the poet who lived in the fourth century in a villa area. The castle has seen over the centuries a succession of owners. The area now belongs to the Vauthier family. The area of vineyards of Château is 7 hectares on the beautiful land of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion covered grave. The grape variety distribution of the vineyards is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot. Ausone is one of the most coveted wines of Bordeaux, because it is very rare on the market. Nearly 18,000 bottles are produced per vintage.

  • Wine

Ausone 2005 has a beautiful black cherry color. At Ausone more than anywhere else there is the desire to bring out the terroir. That is why the Cabernet Franc grape of great aromatic complexity is on Ausone calcareous soils where it can be expressed perfectly. This wine has aromas of red fruits, spices and wood smoke in a significantly different style of 2010, the 2005 is a true success. This is a great wine for aging.

Château Ausone

One of the prides of Saint-Émilion

Ausone is one of the oldest buildings in Saint-Émilion. The name "Ausone" supposedly comes from a poet who lived in a "Lucaniacum" in the area: Decimus Magnus Ausonius (310-395). Over the centuries, the castle had a few owners. It also changed its name in 1952, to officially become "Casteau Dauzone". Today, the estate belongs to the Vauthier family, direct descendants of Pierre Chatonnet (who was the castle's owner in 1690) and the Dubois-Challon family (the proprietors of Château Bélair).

The vineyards of this Bordeaux Château represent 7 hectares of a beautiful limestone plateau, filled with gravel found in Saint-Émilion. The grape variety distribution of the vineyards is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot. Ausone is one of the most coveted wines of Bordeaux, because it is very hard to find a single bottle on the market. Nearly 18,000 bottles are produced per vintage.
