Tasting notes for the Riesling "Clos Sainte Hune" 2006 - Maison Trimbach (Magnum)

  • EYE: This Riesling Clos Sainte Hune 2006, presented in a magnum format, reveals itself in a golden hue, like the warm glow of a summer sun. Its rich color announces a tasting experience that lives up to our expectations.
  • NOSE: Intensely sweet aromas of ripe yellow fruits unfold. Notes of juicy peach, apricot, and citrus zest create a captivating olfactory bouquet, while subtle minerality adds an earthy touch reminiscent of the characteristic Alsatian soils.
  • MOUTH: The tasting unveils a lively and generous palate marked by refreshing acidity. Flavors of candied lemon, ripe pear, and white flowers harmoniously intertwine, creating a balanced gustatory symphony. The refined structure of this Riesling wine imparts exceptional finesse to each sip, and the persistent finish leaves a fruity and mineral imprint.

In short: The Riesling Clos Sainte Hune 2006, sold in a magnum format, offers a complete sensory experience with its incredibly rich aromatic palette, perfect balance, and elegant finish. Although already stunning, this vintage has the potential to age for another good fifteen years, allowing its complex aromas to further develop over time. Pair it with refined dishes such as a fresh seafood platter, an authentic Alsatian sauerkraut, a fillet of pikeperch with white butter sauce, a hearty slice of onion tart, or even aged goat cheese. The diversity of these culinary pairings will highlight the versatility of this exceptional wine.

Flagship wines of Alsace

Founded during the 17th century by Jean Trimbach, the Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé (Haut-Rhin region, on the Alsace Wine Route). The family owns over 40 hectares of vineyard, sprawling across a few villages such as Hunawihr, Bergheim or Mittelwihr. In this region, the limestone soil is perfect for Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner...

The Trimbach Family is known for taking great care of its vines, and nature in general. One of their most prestigious "cuvées" is the Clos Sainte Hune, dubbed "World's Best Riesling" according to Serge Dubs (World's Best Sommelier in 1989), created 200 years ago. It comes from a great growth monopole called the "Rosacker d'Hunawihr" (1,67 hectare), and only 8000 bottles of this very special Riesling can be produced each year.
