- Presentation of the winery
Domaine Leroy was founded in 1868 by François Leroy, winemaker. Successive generations increased the activity of the estate, and Henri Leroy, integrating the estate in 1919, developed it considerably, and acquired in 1942 half of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, flagship of Burgundy. Leroy family still owns 50% of Domaine de la romanée-Conti.
Lalou Bize-Leroy, his daughter, integrated the family estate and in 1971 became CEO of Domaine Leroy. She bought estates and vineyards, extending the domain to almost 22 hectares of various vines. Since 1988, the vineyards are managed in biodynamics and the estate covers many appellations, from the simple aligoté to the grand cru Chambertin. One finds in these bottles the style which made the renown of the great burgundies. Few people have the chance to taste the production of this Côte d'Or property, as it is confidential.

Winemaker family from Pommard
In 1804, the saga of the Gros family began. Back then, patriarch Alphonse Gros left his little village of Chaux (not too far from Nuits-Saint-Georges) to find a new home in Vosne-Romanée, in 1830 with his wife. Once there, the young man quickly started growing vines and built his own wine estate. He also bought many promising terroirs, such as the Clos des Réas in 1860.
One of his sons, Louis-Gustave Gros, inherited the estate when his father died. He and his wife founded the Domaine Gros-Guenaud together. The pair innovated quite a lot for the time, since they bottled their own wines, which was unheard of on the Burgundian Côte de Nuits. The two winemakers also sold their cuvées to private customers. Another little revolution. They left the business in the hands of their son Jules Gros, who rebranded it "Domaine Gros-Renaudot" after his mariage. During the 1920's, Jules acquired even more prestigious parcels of land, among which the Clos Vougeot and the Grands Échezeaux.
The Gros-Renaudot couple then entrusted the estate to their son Louis, the hero of the Great War. He followed in his parents' footsteps with success, all the while renaming the estate "Domaine Louis Gros". When he died in 1951, his four children (Gustave, Colette, Jean and François) took the helm of the family business and split it among them in 1963. The first two children partnered to create the "Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur" and the other two founded a company called "Gros Père et Fils" (which was active until 1973).
François Gros then went his own way, while Jean founded his Domaine Jean Gros (his son Michel and his grandson Pierre inherited it later on). François built his new estate in Pommard, on the Côte de Beaune. In 1988, as his health was declining, François decided to leave his daughter Anne Gros in charge. The estate thus became the "Domaine Anne et François Gros" while they were working together, and later turned into the "Domaine Anne Gros", in 1995. Anne's three children (Marine, Julie and Paul) came to help their mom around 2019. She's now training all of them to become full-fledged winemakers.
Not only does Anne Gros faithfully respect the old family traditions, she also firmly believes in sustainability. Organic winemaking was an obvious choice for her, with an added touch of biodynamics. On her 6.5 hectares of vineyard, Anne practices reasoned farming, taking care of the soils and the plants. On top of her estate, she owns a guest house since 2006 and frequently organizes events destined to promote her work as a winemaker and the diversity of the local terroirs.
