Tasting notes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" 2011 - Arnaud Ente

  • EYE: A bright and shiny golden yellow robe. Its color is intense and reflects the richness of the wine.
  • NOSE: Notes of mature white-fleshed fruits, such as pear and apple, delicately blend with hints of citrus and white flowers. Subtle accents of vanilla, fresh butter, and grilled almonds enrich the aromatic bouquet, adding captivating complexity.
  • MOUTH: The wine offers a thick and silky texture, providing a sensation of smoothness and roundness. Flavors of ripe fruits unfold elegantly, accompanied by notes of honey, French pastries, and delicate minerals. The lively and well-balanced acidity brings freshness to the whole, while the finish is long, persistent, and leaves a pleasant sensation in the mouth once the tasting is over.

In short: This Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" 2011 by Arnaud Ente is a white wine of great finesse and remarkable complexity. Its brilliant golden yellow robe, delicate nose, and velvety palate offer a refined gustatory experience. This wine pairs perfectly with noble fish dishes such as sole meunière, grilled langoustines, or seafood in sauce. It also pairs well with roasted poultry and soft cheeses. In terms of aging, this wine can be enjoyed right away, but it also possesses a good aging potential, allowing it to be cellared for up to 10 more years, revealing even more complexity and harmony. An ideal choice for lovers of great Puligny-Montrachet wines.

An artist of the vineyard in Meursault

Elected "Man of the Year" by the Bettane & Desseauve wine guide in 2012, Arnaud Ente still deserves the title. According to critic Michel Bettane, his white wines are "the most advanced [...] in the entire world when it comes to Chardonnay." The winemaker, who was also nicknamed the Rising Star of Meursault for a few years, is now considered to be one of the greatest artists of the vineyard in the Côte de Beaune.

With the help of his wife Marie-Odile, his son Pierre, and his two employees, Arnaud Ente takes care of his 4.5 hectares of vineyard the way he would his garden. Although, you need to understand that the man is a true perfectionist (and an inspiration to his brother Benoît). He strives for balance, in all things. Arnaud Ente not only seeks to produce the purest wines possible, he is also constantly trying to find a fragile equilibrium between tension and texture. Acidity and volume.

The concept of precision is very close to his heart. Everything is adjusted and calibrated round the clock... from picking the grapes to pruning the vines. Furthermore, respecting the Burgundy terroir is a real duty for him. Which explains why the yields are extremely low. Of course, Arnaud Ente only uses organic methods in his vineyard (he is a proud recipient of the French "Agriculture Biologique" certification).
