Tasting notes for the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Bertins" 2021 - Domaine Chantal Lescure

  • EYE: We plunge into a garnet color of striking intensity, revealing the exceptional concentration of the 2021 vintage. Purple nuances evoke the youthfulness of the wine, anticipating a deep power.
  • NOSE: This Pommard 1er Cru Les Bertins 2021 unveils a complex bouquet, harmoniously blending aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry with subtle notes of oak tree and delicate spices. The result reflects a barrel aging skillfully mastered.
  • MOUTH: The tasting begins with a bold attack, giving way to a robust and fleshy structure. Velvety tannins, present without being aggressive, confer a unique elegance to the wine. Flavors of blackberry, licorice, and vanilla intertwine, creating a balanced and promising palate.

In short: The Pommard 1er Cru cuvée "Les Bertins" 2021 from Domaine Chantal Lescure brilliantly embodies the quintessence of Burgundy wines, with an estimated aging potential of 10 years. Its balance between power and finesse makes it a preferred option for enthusiasts of complex reds. It can find harmony alongside flavorful dishes. A grilled steak with morel sauce will enhance the wine's tannic structure. Vegetarians may prefer some stuffed eggplants with Provencal herbs. As for cheese aficionados, a matured Époisses will enrich the experience.

Fine wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges

The Domaine Chantal Lescure is one of the most recent wine estates in Burgundy, as it opened its doors in 1975, in the commune of Nuits-Saint-Georges (located to the north of Meursault). Despite its young age, the estate quickly became famous for the quality of its wines. The 18 hectares of vineyard managed by Chantal and her husband Xavier Machard de Gramont are nestled between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. There are 35 parcels and around 20 different appellations in the vineyard, such as Chambolle-Musigny and Volnay.

When Chantal died, in 1996, her two sons Aymeric and Thibault took the helm of the family estate. They immediately thought about the way they were doing things, to define whether the vinification and winegrowing methods were the right ones. As a result, the Machard de Gramont brothers decided in 1997 to try a more organic approach. Since September 2009, all the wines produced by the Domaine Chantal Lescure are now AB certified.

The soils of the vineyard are a blend of clay, silt, pebbles and limestone. Here, grape harvesting is done entirely by hand and the winemaking process is deliberately non-interventionist. This in turn ensures that the red and white wines made by the two brothers can transmit all the specificities of the incredible Nuits-Saint-Georges terroir, in a never ending quest for purity and authenticity.
