Tasting notes for the Musigny Grand Cru 2005 - Domaine Georges Roumier

  • EYE: This Musigny Grand Cru displays a deep and intense ruby red color, a testament to its beautiful maturity.
  • NOSE: The bouquet of this wine is complex and captivating. Aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as black cherry and blackberry, harmoniously blend with notes of violet, licorice, and spices. Delicate hints of cedarwood and truffle also add a subtle touch to the ensemble.
  • MOUTH: A truly breathtaking experience. The attack is bold and direct, yet remarkably velvety, revealing a silky and generous texture. Flavors of red and black fruits express themselves freely, accompanied by nuances of cocoa, tobacco, and woody undertones. The tannins are very fine and perfectly integrated, providing a refined and balanced structure. The finish is persistent, leaving a delightful impression.

In short: This Musigny Grand Cru 2005 from the Domaine Georges Roumier is an astounding wine, worthy of the finest Burgundy crus. Its deep ruby color attracts the eye, while its captivating nose offers a complex array of ripe fruits, spices, and woody notes. On the palate, the experience is powerful and velvety, with a perfect balance between fruit flavors and spicier nuances. This grand cru pairs wonderfully with grilled duck breast or lamb chops. You can enjoy it now to savor its fullness, but it can also be aged for another 10 to 20 years for further development and an even more incredible tasting experience over the years.

Fine wines of Chambolle-Musigny

The Domaine Georges Roumier was created back in 1924, when Georges married Geneviève Quanquin. The newlyweds decided to take care of the vineyard belonging to Geneviève's family and started their winemaking business. Over the years, Georges' talent as a winemaker made this little Burgundian estate the talk of the town. In 1961, his son Jean-Marie took the helm of the estate, until 1981. Today, Christophe (Georges Roumier's grandson) is the one managing the legendary domaine.

He takes the utmost care of the 12 hectares of vineyard, growing near the small village of Chambolle-Musigny, in the Côte de Nuits. As a way to show respect for the family traditions, and for the nature that has given him so much, Christophe has sworn to never use any chemical fertilizer. He even spends extra time pampering the oldest grapevines, which he thinks make the best wine. Per choice, yields are low (only 40,000 bottles per year), which means his different vintages can become quite rare.

Thanks to his hard work and a keen interest in international trade (a Japanese export office was established in 1987), Christophe turned the name "Georges Roumier" into a world renown brand. The wines he produces are all incredibly complex and balanced, able to reach their peak after just a few years of cellaring.
