Fine wines of Chambolle-Musigny
The Domaine Georges Roumier was created back in 1924, when Georges married Geneviève Quanquin. The newlyweds decided to take care of the vineyard belonging to Geneviève's family and started their winemaking business. Over the years, Georges' talent as a winemaker made this little Burgundian estate the talk of the town. In 1961, his son Jean-Marie took the helm of the estate, until 1981. Today, Christophe (Georges Roumier's grandson) is the one managing the legendary domaine.
He takes the utmost care of the 12 hectares of vineyard, growing near the small village of Chambolle-Musigny, in the Côte de Nuits. As a way to show respect for the family traditions, and for the nature that has given him so much, Christophe has sworn to never use any chemical fertilizer. He even spends extra time pampering the oldest grapevines, which he thinks make the best wine. Per choice, yields are low (only 40,000 bottles per year), which means his different vintages can become quite rare.
Thanks to his hard work and a keen interest in international trade (a Japanese export office was established in 1987), Christophe turned the name "Georges Roumier" into a world renown brand. The wines he produces are all incredibly complex and balanced, able to reach their peak after just a few years of cellaring.
