Tasting notes for the Montrachet Grand Cru 2011 "Marquis de Laguiche" - Domaine Joseph Drouhin
- EYE: The wine’s robe stands out with an intense golden hue, with slight golden reflections, indicating its evolution.
- NOSE: A subtle and evolved bouquet, revealing aromas of dried fruits such as almond and hazelnut, accompanied by touches of honey and fresh butter. Delicate floral notes, of dried flowers and candied citrus, blend with nuances of white truffle and undergrowth, a sign of its maturity.
- MOUTH: On the palate, the 2011 is rich, powerful, and perfectly balanced. The flavors of candied citrus and honey merge with notes of ripe fruits, such as pear and yellow peach. Hints of toasted brioche and sweet spices, stemming from the barrel aging, harmonize beautifully. The texture is smooth and creamy, with well-integrated acidity providing freshness and structure. The finish is long, complex, and marked by persistent minerality.
In short: The Montrachet Grand Cru 2011 Marquis de Laguiche from Domaine Joseph Drouhin is a wine at the peak of its maturity, offering great aromatic complexity and impressive depth. Its mature aromas and evolved flavors are beautifully complemented by mineral and spicy notes, offering a refined tasting experience. This vintage can be enjoyed now for its fully developed character, but it can also continue to evolve in the cellar for those seeking an even more mature experience.

Famous Beaune wine estate
The Drouhin family has been working in the vineyard for more than 130 years. In 1880, Joseph Drouhin founded his very first wine trading house in Beaune. A few years later, his son Maurice turned this little business into a bonafide wine estate, with the addition of a vineyard next to the main building. Then, in 1957, Joseph’s grandson Robert bought many more grapevines as well as a fully equipped oenological laboratory. Managed by Laurence Jobard, the first woman oenologist in Burgundy, this lab allowed them to experiment a lot (turning the estate into one of the first to adopt reasoned viticulture, for example).
Thanks to his research, Robert laid the first brick of what would ultimately become the philosophy of the Domaine Drouhin. Since 1990, the estate has gone full biodynamics and the motto now is to solve natural problems using natural solutions. Plowing is done using a horse, fertilizers are completely natural, yields are voluntarily low, grapevines are respected, harvesting is done by hand… Everything here revolves around the well-being of the vineyard, which of course shows in the final products.
The Drouhin style gives birth to wines that are a balanced combination of harmony, smoothness and strength. The estate’s pursuit of excellence leaves nobody indifferent. Today, the Domaine Joseph Drouhin owns 73 hectares of vineyard, located in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablisien. It is one of the biggest estates in Burgundy, producing more than 90 different appellations (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), with many of them being premiers crus or even grands crus.
