Tiny biodynamic estate in Beaune
We have another love story between Japan and France. Our protagonist this time is Seiichi Saito Wang, the founder of the small Petit-Roy estate located in Chorey-les-Beaune (Burgundy region). Born in China and raised in Japan, this winemaker came to France in 2005 and immediately went to work on his dream. He started learning oenology in Beaune and worked with some of the biggest names in the region, like Rousseau or Leflaive.
Seiichi is an extremely meticulous man with very specific methods, especially when it comes to preventing grapevine illnesses and treating his plants. In his mind, wine must be the most natural it can be, which is why he never adds sulphites to his cuvées but instead tiny amounts of copper (to help with the fermentation process). Harvesting and winemaking must be simplified as much as possible.
His 2 hectares of vineyard are entirely cultivated according to biodynamics principles, although Seiichi is not certified just yet. The wines he produces are balanced to perfection, allowing them to be accessible to everyone quite easily. Thanks to his hard work and talent, Seiichi Wang has quickly become one of the rising stars of the Côte de Beaune, so keep an eye on him in the foreseeable future!
