Champagne house in Aÿ since 1906
Nestled between the banks of the Marne and the sun-drenched slopes of the Montagne de Reims, the Champagne House Lallier flourishes across more than 15 hectares of land, primarily classified as Grand Cru, in the prestigious viticultural terroir of Aÿ. These vineyards, nurtured through sustainable viticulture, constitute nearly 40% of Lallier's portfolio and shelter the house's exclusive grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Historically speaking, Lallier's story began in 1906 in the commune of Aÿ, at the heart of Champagne's Grands Crus. It was built upon a specific family philosophy: an authentic reverence for nature and an enduring curiosity for the nuances only it can unveil.
Founder René Lallier, an impassioned ecologist captivated by Aÿ's terroir, paved the way for Lallier's distinctive champagne vision. Demanding nothing short of excellence at each stage – from the meticulous grape selection to the time-consuming crafting of wines – René laid the foundation for authentic craftsmanship above all else. In 1938, after gaining invaluable knowledge at Deutz & Gelderman in Germany, his son Jean Lallier became the new manager of the Maison Lallier. A passionate innovator, he developed new cultivation and production methods, skillfully blending his father's elegant tradition with a definitely innovative audacity.
Subsequently, René's grandson René-James Lallier (in 1973) marked an era of continuous modernization, including the renovation of the ancestral cellars, the acquisition of new vineyards, and the reestablishment of the Lallier property at the heart of Aÿ. Under his leadership, the daring Blanc de Blancs cuvée even saw the light of day. In 2004, oenologist Francis Tribaut (with whom René-James had collaborated since 1996) took the helm of Lallier, ushering in a new era of growth and modernity, giving birth to the new "Réflexions-R" and "Ouvrage" cuvées. Tribaut elevated Lallier's philosophy, skillfully merging precision with the authenticity of terroir.
In 2020, the renowned Campari Group, led by Dominique Demarville, was looking for a premium champagne to enrich its portfolio. Naturally, they turned to Lallier and acquired the house. A brilliant move indeed, as Dominique's eco-responsible approach and contemporary vision harmonize seamlessly with the Maison Lallier's refined authenticity, giving life to blends where freshness and purity rhyme with depth and intensity – a vivid tribute to the nuances of Lallier's Champagne journey.
