Maison de champagne depuis les années 1930
The Maison Egly-Ouriet is a family-owned champagne house located in the commune of Ambonnay, on the famous Montagne de Reims in the Champagne region. It was founded in the 1930's by Francis Egly, who at the time was fleeing Paris and its pollution to settle in the region, and was later joined by the Ouriet family. Today, the business is led by his grandson, Francis Egly II, since the 1970's. The Maison Egly-Ouriet is particularly renowned for the impressive quality of its champagnes, which are made exclusively from grapes coming from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, mainly located in the villages of Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Verzenay.
Egly-Ouriet champagnes are crafted using methods that skillfully blend tradition and modernity, with particular attention paid to each stage of production. On the 10 hectares of vineyards, grapes (mostly Pinot Noir) are hand-picked and carefully sorted before being pressed to preserve their quality. The resulting wines are then aged in oak barrels for a period of 4 to 10 years before being bottled. Since the arrival of Francis Egly-Ouriet, now helped by his son Jean-Philippe, the house has switched to biodynamic viticulture, opening up new prospects for its champagne wines.
Egly-Ouriet champagnes are known for their complexity and depth, and are often described as true gourmet wines. The house produces several cuvées, including the Champagne Brut Tradition Grand Cru, the Champagne Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, and the Champagne Vignes de Vrigny Premier Cru. The most prestigious cuvée made by the house is undoubtedly the cuvée called "Les Crayères", which is only produced during the best years and aged for more than ten years before being released. The Maison Egly-Ouriet is now considered one of the best champagne houses in the region, having received numerous awards and accolades for the quality of its wines.
