Tasting notes for the Champagne La Closerie "&" LC18 Extra Brut - Jérôme Prévost

  • EYE: The "&" LC18 champagne by Jérôme Prévost adorns itself with a robe of crystalline paleness, accentuated by delicate effervescence that dances lightly in the glass. Its clarity evokes purity and finesse.
  • NOSE: This champagne reveals a complex bouquet, subtly combining floral aromas such as lily of the valley and elderflower with fresh citrus notes. Mineral touches intertwine with nuances of white-fleshed fruits, creating a refined olfactory invitation.
  • MOUTH: The expression is of elegant vivacity. Vibrant freshness accompanies flavors of crisp green apple and zesty lemon. The persistent mineral aspect attests to the purity of the terroir, while hints of toasted bread and hazelnut bring subtle complexity to this gustatory symphony.

In short: The "&" LC18 Extra Brut from La Closerie embodies the alliance between a robe of delicate paleness, a floral and fresh nose, and a lively palate with accents of crisp fruits. A champagne that will not leave you indifferent with its purity and subtle balance. Best enjoyed within 3 to 8 years. Perfect as an aperitif, this champagne harmoniously pairs with fresh oysters, seafood-based appetizers, or aged goat cheeses.

Anselme Selosse's incredible disciple

La Closerie is Jérôme Prévost's brainchild, who is a disciple of the famous Champagne artisan Anselme Selosse. In the late 1990's, Jérôme was training with the master, making his first 1999 vintage wine. Later, he decided to carve his own path, although he still worked with Anselme from time to time. Jérôme settled in Gueux (a village somewhere in the Montagne de Reims terroir) and started to cultivate two hectares of vineyard that he inherited from his grandmother. This specific parcel was known as "Les Béguines". Jérôme Prévost only uses one type of grape for his wines: the often neglected Pinot Meunier variety.

Jérôme Prévost is what you would call the perfect example of a confidential winemaker. His cuvées have become very hard to find on the market, especially since his vineyard is really tiny and can only produce a few thousands of bottles per year (somewhere around 5,000 and 6,000). La Closerie offers wines that are the purest expression of their terroir. They contain very little sugar and are astoundingly rich in fruits.
