Famous wine estate of Meursault
Fabien Coche is the great-grandson of Léon Coche, the founder of the eponymous wine estate during the 1920's. Thus, he is also the cousin of Raphaël Coche, current manager of the Domaine Coche-Dury (created by Jean-François Coche, one of the most famous winemakers in the world). Founded in 1940, the Domaine Fabien Coche used to be called "Coche-Bizouard", when Fabien was still working with his father, Alain Coche-Bizouard.
In his Meursault estate, located on the Burgundian Côte de Beaune, Fabien Coche stays true to the old winemaking techniques his family came up with during the early 20th century. He switched to organic farming a few years ago, to take better care of his 10 hectares of vineyard, although he only asked for an official certification in 2020. The soils are manually tilled and not a single drop of chemical is used, neither in the vineyard, nor the vats.
The result? Red and white wines that are impressively balanced, with a strong fruitiness and an incredible freshness. You can taste these wines when they're still fairly young but they're also perfect candidates for a few years of aging in a cellar. Fabien produces many high-quality appellations, such as the Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, Monthélie, Auxey-Duresses and other famous names. In total, around 50,000 bottles of wine come out of the Domaine Fabien Coche each year.
