A little Gem of Marsannay
Born in Marsannay, Sylvain Pataille does not come from a family of winemakers, making his journey into the world of wine all the more remarkable. At the age of 14, he joined the Burgundy Wine School in Beaune, and later pursued his studies at the University of Bordeaux, where he earned a degree in oenology. His educational path led him to work in an oenological laboratory in Beaune from 1997 to 2001. However, Sylvain soon felt the need to produce his own wines, to see them evolve over time. This desire motivated him to create his own winery.
In 1999, Sylvain founded his Domaine Sylvain Pataille in Marsannay-la-Côte, located in the Côte de Nuits. At that time, he only leased one hectare of vineyards. Today, his vineyard spans 17 hectares. Sylvain distinguishes himself thanks to by his passionate and innovative approach, implementing biodynamic methods and a respectful vision of the ecosystem. His wines cover various appellations, including Marsannay and Bourgogne Aligoté. Among the cultivated grape varieties, the Pinot Noir reigns supreme, expressing the full potential of Burgundy.
The reputation of Domaine Sylvain Pataille rests on his relentless pursuit of quality and authenticity. Sylvain practices precise winemaking, favoring minimal intervention to allow the characteristics of the terroir to express themselves freely, and intentionally limits his yields. The wines of the estate, especially the white ones made from the Aligoté grape, are praised for their elegance and complexity. Needless to say, they are highly sought after by enthusiasts for their finesse, balance, and purity.
