Château Margaux

A legendary Bordeaux wine

Château Margaux has always been the stuff of legend, even before being classified Premier Grand Cru in 1855. In 1708, the London Gazette wrote about the Médoc estate's first auction sale: 200 barrels of Margose wine. Later on, the American Ambassador, Thomas Jefferson, declared that Margaux simply was the best wine that ever existed. In 1977, André Mentzelopoulos, a Greek with a very strong personality, bought the estate and renovated it entirely to restore it to its former glory.

It is now his daughter who is the current and sole owner of the Bordeaux castle. She continues the work of her father, between tradition and modernity. In 2000, she opened a research and development department, in order to evaluate the impact of biodynamics on the vineyard and the wine. This was done so she could better guarantee the authenticity of the wines. The vineyard is located on a Graves hill covering about 100 hectares.
