Great Loire Wines

Thibaud Boudignon, an accomplished winemaker from the Loire Valley, embodies the remarkable evolution of the Loire wine landscape over the past decade. Originally from the Médoc region and a former high-level judoka, his transition to the world of wine in 2002 came after several years of intense athletic career. His initial foray into viticulture took him first to Bordeaux, working at the Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Canon La Gaffelière, and then to Burgundy, at the Domaine Philippe Charlopin, where he soaked up the Burgundian philosophy focusing on the valorization of local terroirs and the importance of parcel vinification.

Drawn by a desire for freedom and experimentation, Thibaud chose the banks of the Loire, becoming the cellar master at a major estate in Anjou from 2008 to 2017 (the Domaine de la Soucherie). His love for nature led him to settle in the region. Starting in 2009, he simultaneously devoted his energy to creating a true vineyard paradise in Savennières, with the Clos de la Hutte at its center and the Chenin grape variety as his working base. Over the years, he acquired other adjacent parcels, thus creating a homogeneous yet nuanced heritage. It was also during this period that he forged lasting friendships with many local winemakers, including the renowned Charly Foucault, who became a mentor for him.

Thibaud Boudignon's vineyard, certified organic since 2019, operates today as a sustainable ecosystem, implementing environmentally friendly practices. Organic farming methods are complemented by initiatives such as rainwater recovery and the creation of vegetal compost. Thibaud also owns an environmentally friendly cellar, using a Canadian well for cave thermoregulation through underground geothermal energy. The winemaker's commitment to grape quality is also reflected in the vinification and aging processes, as he aims to sublime the characteristics of each vintage and terroir.

In a decade, Thibaud Boudignon has successfully transformed his estate into a major player, receiving acclaim and recognition for his wines from Anjou and Savennières. The latter are sought after worldwide. The "Franc de Pied" cuvée, produced in ultra-confidential quantities, has become so rare that it is now nearly impossible to obtain. Thibaud Boudignon has undeniably become an iconic figure in the Loire Valley, featured on the tables of top restaurants and in the cellars of discerning enthusiasts and collectors.
