100% organic estate in Vouvray
The Huet wine dynasty began in 1928, with Gaston Huet. That year, his parents and him left their café in Paris to go live in the little village of Vouvray, in the Loire Valley. It was their chance to leave the pollution of the capital behind them. They found their new home in Vouvray: a superb house, surrounded by five hectares of vineyard, located on the Haut-Lieu terroir. Gaston and his father Victor Huet decided to get to work and started exploiting the grapevines, thus officially giving birth to the Domaine Huet.
Over the years, father and son bought new parcels in the region (such as the Clos du Bourg and Le Mont). When World War II broke out, Gaston was taken prisoner by the Germans and sent to a concentration camp. Thankfully, he was freed during the 1950's and went right back to making wine. The family vineyard then occupied 15 hectares of surface. When his father died, Gaston established the SA Huet, and shared it with his three children. The husband of one of his two daughters (Marie-Françoise Huet), who was called Jean-Noël Pinguet, became the owner of the estate in 1976.
He walked the same line as his father-in-law, whose philosophy he also shared: making purely biodynamic white wines. Indeed, on top of being a strong advocate of the Vouvray wine appellation, Gaston Huet was also a pioneer when it came to organic agriculture. In fact, he was already Demeter certified in 1993. The two men then founded the now famous "Syndicat International des Vignerons en Culture Biodynamique" in 1996. This organization was at the origin of the French "Biodyvin" label.
Following the death of Gaston in 2002, Jean-Noël Pinguet decided one year later to sell 80% of the shares of the estate to an American billionaire called Anthony Hwang. As per an agreement with the Hwang family, Jean-Noël kept managing the estate and its 35 hectares of vineyard until 2012. After that, he passed the baton to his two children, Sarah and Hugo Pinguet. Like their parents and grandparents before them, they are now the guardians of the family vineyard.
