Wines from the Côte de Nuits
The Domaine Bruno Clair is reputed for its elegant and smooth wines. Joseph Clair founded the wine estate in 1919, in Marsannay-la-Côte, not too far from Dijon (on the famous Burgundy Côte de Nuits). Over the years, Bruno's grandfather acquired many parcels of vineyards, with some beautiful appellations such as the Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos de Bèze. In 1954, his three children came to work with him at the estate, which was then called "Domaine Clair-Daü" (bearing both his name and the name of his wife, Marguerite Daü).
After Joseph Clair's death in 1971, his son Bernard took the helm of the family estate. Unfortunately, internal tensions led the family business to self-destruct. The children decided to take back the vineyards they used to share with their siblings and founded their own wine estates. That's how Bernard ended up with a property his son Bruno Clair inherited in 1985.
His 25 hectares of vineyard are located in the villages of Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Marsannay, Savigny-Les-Beaune and Morey-Saint-Denis. It all amounts to 28 appellations, entirely managed by Bruno and his wife Isabelle, until 2010. That year, their two children Édouard and Arthur Clair came to help them. The first is in charge of the winemaking process, while his brother is the vineyard's caretaker. Very few chemicals are used in the production of their wines. The Clair family has now become one of the Marsannay region's crown jewels.
