Crozes Hermitage "Le Rouvre" 2023 - Yann Chave
Vallée du Rhône Septentrionale, Crozes Hermitage, Le Rouvre, Vintage 2023, Yann Chave
Tasting Note – Crozes-Hermitage "Le Rouvre" 2023 – Domaine Yann Chave
Appearance & Nose: Deep purple color with violet highlights. The nose is precise and expressive, opening with notes of black fruits (blackberry, cherry), accented by sweet spices, violet, and a subtle hint of menthol.
Palate: The palate impresses with its depth and balance. The attack is smooth, followed by a dense yet airy texture supported by fine, silky tannins. Ripe black fruit, licorice, and spice notes unfold with a vibrant freshness that extends the finish. The wine is simultaneously generous, structured, and highly drinkable.
Winemaking & Aging: The winemaking is natural, with no additives. Grapes are fully destemmed, and only gentle pump-overs are used to extract flavor and structure. Fermentation temperatures are carefully controlled, ranging from 20 to 28°C. Maceration lasts for 4 weeks. The wine is then transferred into 600L demi-muids, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It matures for one year in these demi-muids before resting for six additional months in tank prior to bottling.
In Summary: "Le Rouvre" 2023 captures the elegance and power of the Crozes-Hermitage terroir. Enjoy now after decanting, or cellar for 5 to 10 years. A perfect pairing for grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, or more boldly spiced cuisines.

The quiet virtuoso of Crozes-Hermitage
Founded in the heart of France’s northern Rhône Valley, Domaine Yann Chave is a family-run estate that has become a benchmark for Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage wines. After joining his father Bernard in 1996, Yann took over the reins of the domaine and infused it with a modern, organic vision. Today, the estate covers over 20 hectares—nearly 19.24 ha in Crozes-Hermitage (spread across Mercurol, La Roche-de-Glun, and Pont de l’Isère) and 1.15 ha on the storied slopes of Hermitage, notably in the Beaume and Péleat lieux-dits.
Certified organic since 2007, the vineyard is cultivated with great care and minimal intervention. In the cellar, Yann Chave focuses on precision and purity of fruit: grapes are fully destemmed, followed by a long maceration of 20 to 25 days in stainless steel vats. The wines are then aged for 9 to 12 months, either in tanks or large oak foudres, depending on the style and expression of each cuvée.
Production remains limited, with a focus on authenticity and terroir. From the classic Crozes-Hermitage Domaine to the more structured and age-worthy Le Rouvre, each wine is a reflection of its origin—showcasing the richness of Syrah, balanced by finesse, minerality, and freshness.
Domaine Yann Chave represents a discreet yet powerful voice in the Rhône, crafting elegant, expressive wines that remain true to their roots and to a vision of sustainable excellence.
