Tasting Note - Château d'Esclans, 2023 Vintage, Rosé

  • Appearance: An elegant robe, pale pink with salmon hues, crystalline and brilliant, immediately catching the eye with its purity and luminosity.
  • Nose: A complex and refined nose, where fresh fruit aromas intertwine, notably citrus (grapefruit, lime) and slightly tart red fruits (raspberry, wild strawberry). Subtle floral notes of rose and white flowers add finesse, while a slight minerality emerges, reflecting the unique terroir of the estate.
  • Palate: The attack is fresh and lively, followed by a silky texture that envelops the palate. The wine offers a beautiful balance between acidity and fruit, with flavors of red fruits and citrus developing harmoniously. The finish is long, mineral, and slightly spicy, providing impressive persistence and a sense of refinement.

In Summary: The Château d'Esclans 2023 is a rosé of great quality, combining elegance, freshness, and complexity. Its finesse and balance make it a perfect wine to pair with refined dishes such as grilled fish, seafood, white meats, or aged goat cheese. A prestigious rosé to enjoy on special occasions.

Château d'Esclans

One of the most famous rosé estates!

The foundations of Castle d'Esclans were laid out at the time of the Roman Republic. Located at the heart of the valley of the same name, between Cannes and Saint-Tropez (Provence), this estate's cellars are the oldest of the region. They were there when the Count of Provence, Alfonso II, gave the property to Gérard de Villeneuve, in 1201, and they're still being used today, eight hundred and twenty years later.

Over the years, the castle has had many owners, until the 21st century. In 1999, Sacha Lichine, a Russian born winemaker, decided to sell the Château Prieuré-Lichine estate he inherited from his father, and went looking for a new vineyard in Southern France. He bought the Château d'Esclans and its 74 hectares of grapevines in 2006. Sacha then went on to produce high-end rosé wines, rivaling even the finest white wines.

He turned the Château d'Esclans into an exceptional estate, making rosé wines that are now considered to be among the best ones, at the same levels as some big international names like Miraval or Minuty. Sacha Lichine is probably one of the precursors who helped rosé wine acquire such a huge reputation throughout the entire world. Talent, skills and terroir are the keywords of this now legendary estate, which sells almost all of its wine production outside of France.
