Family estate in Provence
The Château Les Valentines was created in 1997, thanks to the Pons-Massenot family, but the grapevines themselves have been there since the early 1900's in the region. They're planted in soils made of mica schist (a fine blend of schist and sediments), and are located near the village of Londes-les-Maures (in the Vars department, not far from Bormes-les-Mimosas). The estate's founder, Gilles Pons, a former engineer and huge wine enthusiast, always makes sure to keep a watchful eye on them.
Inspired by his two children, Valentin and Clémentine, Gilles named his new estate "Les Valentines". Fresh winemaker graduate at the time, he wanted to encapsulate what the Provence terroir was all about. After a needed time of reflection, Gilles found his way. On his 35 hectares of vineyard, everything is now done entirely like in the old days, without any pesticide or herbicide. The estate has been organic certified since 2008 (Ecocert certification).
