Tasting notes for the Champagne "Terre de Vertus" 1er Cru Extra Brut - Larmandier-Bernier

  • EYE: This wine presents itself with a pale yellow color, adorned with golden reflections, reflecting its youth and purity.
  • NOSE: The aromas of white-fleshed fruits, such as ripe pear and crisp apple, harmoniously blend with delicate floral notes. A chalky minerality, characteristic of the Champagne region's limestone soils, enhances the ensemble, adding depth and rare distinction.
  • MOUTH: On the palate, the attack is strikingly fresh, supported by perfectly balanced acidity. The flavors of ripe fruits are expressed with precision and elegance, while the persistent minerality gives the wine a silky texture and exceptional length. The balance between acidity, minerality, and fruit flavors reflects the expert craftsmanship with which this wine has been produced.

In short: The "Vertus Blanc" 2018 from Larmandier-Bernier, produced under the Coteaux Champenois appellation, elegantly captures the essence of the Champagne terroir and the finesse of Chardonnay. This wine, with a purity akin to the finest champagnes, will reach its optimal drinking potential within the next 3 to 5 years. It pairs harmoniously with delicate dishes such as premium seafood, roasted salmon, or tuna carpaccio.

Other appellations from this estate: Latitude, Vieille Vigne du Levant, Rosé de Saignée, Les Chemins d'Avize, Terre de Vertus, Longitude, Cramant Nature, Vertus Rouge...

Organic Champagne from the Côte des Blancs

The Champagne estate of Larmandier-Bernier, with roots tracing back to 1765, is firmly established in Vertus. In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, a region renowned all over the world for its exceptional white champagnes, Philippe Larmandier and his wife Elisabeth Bernier founded their vineyard in 1971. The Larmandier-Bernier family fully embraced biodynamic viticulture in 1999, thanks to their son Pierre Larmandier (who has been working at the family estate since 1988). He committed to preserving the natural balance of the vineyard through environmentally friendly practices, sustainable agricultural methods, and harmony with natural cycles.

The vineyards of the Larmandier-Bernier estate span 18 hectares across prestigious village appellations like Vertus, Cramant, Avize, and Oger, where the Chardonnay grape predominantly thrives. The estate produces iconic cuvées such as "Latitude" Blanc de Blancs, "Longitude" Blanc de Blancs, and "Vieille Vigne du Levant," benefiting from old vines. The winemaking is characterized by traditional methods, often with fermentation in oak casks and a minimal approach to sulfur addition. The champagnes of the house are also very lightly dosed.

Recognized for both the exceptional quality of its champagnes and its sustainable viticultural practices, House Larmandier-Bernier holds a prominent place in the wine scene. In 2003, Pierre Larmandier was even named "Winemaker of the Year" by the Gault & Millau guide. The estate's wines are regularly acclaimed by critics and featured in some of the finest restaurants worldwide. Since 2017, the future of the family is secured with Arthur Larmandier joining his parents at the estate, followed by his brother Georges in 2021.
